Home South Africa destinations – what to visit in South Africa

South Africa destinations

South Africa is one of the most “Western” countries in Africa. It is relatively easy to get around, especially in the West of the country where the roads are paved. A great way of visiting the country is by hiring your own car to get around.

My South Africa trip started in Cape Town. There I hired a simple budget car and started driving south to the impressive shores of Cape Point. Next up was a drive north and east through the wine estates of Stellenbosch, the semi-desert of Klein Karoo, the excellent hiking spot Montagu to the ostrich-crazy town of Oudtshoorn.

A short drive later Addo Elephant Park was next on the itinerary, where we did an impressive self-drive through elephants, warthogs and many other creatures. From here I headed south to the coast to stay at a couple of awesome hippie-hostels in Hogsback, Nature’s Valley and Wilderness. I followed the popular Garden Route back to Cape Town via whaling-capital Hermanus and Betty’s Bay.
